Have you ever wanted to try your hand at printing with clay, but didn't know where to start?
Join Hartlepool artist, Carley, for the perfect taster workshop to introduce you to a world of clay printing.
This workshop is a great beginner's guide to what's possible with printing onto clay.
You will learn methods of transferring photographs or images onto clay. You'll use photographs of Hartlepool to inspire your work. The coastline, buildings, familiar places and often overlooked details can all be a starting point. You can bring a photograph on your phone of a place, object or view that means something to you. There will also be plenty of images provided by Carly for you to work with.
You’ll spend a relaxing afternoon playing with colour, images, patterns and texture. You'll learn how to apply slips and underglazes to new print. Carley will guide you in how to build an image in layers and transfer it onto a clay slab. You'll then be able to try your hand at a technique called sgraffito. This involves scratching at the surface with small tools to show through layers underneath.
You don't need to be able to draw or have any experience with photography. You'll be shown all of the techniques you need, and there will be help on hand throughout the workshop.
Carly will take away your clay for firing, colouring and glazing. You will then be able to collect your finished work from the venue. You can also choose to have your finished pieces displayed in a group artwork as part of a larger installation.
Perfect for beginners and anyone who fancies trying something new with clay! Come and spend a relaxing afternoon getting creative!
