Have you ever wanted to try your hand at creating with clay, but didn't know where to start?
Join Hartlepool artist, Carley, for the perfect taster workshop to introduce you to a world of clay. You'll work with a small clay tile and learn some simple ceramic techniques. This includes carving, adding and removing clay, pressing objects into the surface, smoothing and creating your own marks and textures. You will explore how a small piece of clay can hold a memory, a place, a texture or feeling. You'll have creative freedom, with no fixed design to follow. The sea might inspire your design, or tree bark, your favourite jumper, a flower from your childhood garden, a weathered wall on your favourite walk - or simply a texture that catches your attention. Your idea might change as you work, and that's completely encouraged!
You don't need to be able to draw or have any experience with clay. You'll be shown all of the techniques you need, and there will be help on hand throughout the workshop.
Carly will take away your clay for firing, colouring and glazing. You will then be able to collect your finished work from the venue. You can also choose to have your finished pieces displayed in a group artwork as part of a larger installation.
Perfect for beginners and anyone who fancies trying something new with clay! Come and spend a relaxing afternoon getting creative!
